We are very happy to announce that Rabbi Elliot Goldberg has accepted our offer for the position of Head of School at Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford. Rabbi Goldberg will begin working at school in July and will be moving to West Hartford with his wife, Rabbi Sheryl Katzman and their three daughters, Michal and Hadas who will enter 2nd grade at Schechter in the fall, and Liora, who will be part of our Early Childhood 2 program in the fall.
Rabbi Goldberg brings a wealth of experience to our school. He has dedicated his professional life to Jewish day school education, earning a Masters' degree in Jewish Education as well as his rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary, participating in the prestigious Wexner Graduate Fellowship program and graduating from the Day School Leadership Training Institute. Earlier in his career, Rabbi Goldberg worked at the Milken Community High School in Los Angeles and at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Bergen County, New Jersey as well as spending more than 20 summers both as a camper and staff member at Camp Ramahs in Israel and the United States, including our own community's Camp Ramah New England!
Rabbi Goldberg comes to us from the Chicagoland Jewish High School (CJHS) which he helped cofound in 2001. Since then, he has served as one of their key administrators and faculty members and has been instrumental in building the high school from its original enrollment of 26 students to its current enrollment of 162 students. During his time at CJHS, Rabbi Goldberg was awarded the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education.
It is with much excitement that we welcome Rabbi Goldberg and his family into our community.
With much thanks to a dedicated and hard working Search Committee,
The Solomon Schechter
