Enrichment Programs:
PTO sponsors many programs to enrich the experience of all students, from Early Childhood 2 through the 8th grade.
Keeping the SSDS community connected
The PTO strives to maintain and flourish the community that we have as a Schechter family. Some of the programs are

The Sukkah hops in the fall

Several social events, including early childhood programs, parents’ night out, and the end of the year picnic at the pool club.

The SSDS Family Shabbat Dinner

Regular PTO meetings, encouraging new parents to attend
-
Regularly inform our community of PTO and other activities via email, paper, and website
-
Produced and paid for SSDS calendars that are sent out in August to all families
-
Paid costs of SSDS phone directory
Caring for and Serving the Community:
In addition to programming, the PTO provides many services.

The Mitzvah Corps provided meals for people who suffer a loss or have a simcha

Challah delivery every Friday and on holidays
-
Sponsor classroom challahs used for Shabbat
-
Organization of a Teacher Appreciation Week to show how much the teachers mean to the families and children of Schechter, full of gifts and activities such as breakfast, lunch, coffee and donuts, and ice cream
-
Provided parent volunteers to assist the lunch program
-
The Holidays committee sapples/honey; lulav/etrog; hamentashen, donuts and more to classrooms throughout the year.

Provided food during the Open House, Israeli dance festival, ruach week, and more
-
Organized collection of money for teacher/staff gifts at holiday time and end-of-year
-
Provide special bulletin board in recognition of students’ birthdays
-
Provided free individual cup coffee (and machines) for teachers and staff
In addition to all of these programs and services, PTO made other financial contributions and donations:

Purchased new folding tables for the school to use for everything from community dinners to displaying projects
-
Sponsored the step up gifts to be presented to designated classes
-
Sponsored the Schechter Gear start up costs.

Purchased the SSDS magnets for school wide distribution
-
$1000 donation to the 40th Anniversary Celebration

In honor of the 2010-2011 Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, PTO donates to the 8th gr. Israel trip fund.

A Book Fair read-a-thon contribution to the Marcel Stup fund

PTO purchased an ad in the 2010-2011 yearbook
The PTO continues to provide all of these great programs and services to enhance the everyday experiences of the families and students at Solomon Schechter.
