Here’s where you can find the most recent articles, photos and videos of what’s happening in our Elementary School. Many of our families continue into this exciting division of our school after participating in our Early Childhood Program; however, a significant number of students and families begin their relationship with our special Schechter community through this wonderful division of our school. Kindergarten through fifth grade represent a wealth of opportunities for fundamental intellectual and social-emotional skill development. Few environments offer the array of services that Schechter provides to ensure each child is challenged and nurtured, encouraged to work constructively independently and with others, and valued as an individual.
Our skilled teachers are passionate about what they do and committed to the success of each of the children under their care. They work thoughtfully and collaboratively to address the varied needs of their students and become fluent in differentiated instruction, appreciating the multiple intelligences and learning styles of their students. We strive to provide an environment that truly exemplifies integrated instruction, with General and Judaic Studies teachers working together to ensure our students receive an outstanding educational experience infused with Jewish values.
In our recent re-accreditation with the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), Schechter earned a superlative review in each key area of educational implementation. We are proud of this affirmation of the wonderful work of our staff and response of our families. Still we recognize that there is always room to improve and we actively seek these opportunities. Our curriculum is a dynamic one that continues to evolve in detail while retaining the integrity that has ensured our graduates become confident learners, creative thinkers and caring individuals who are motivated to make a difference.
In addition to enhancing our curriculum, we have recently upgraded our technology infrastructure, incorporating a Macbook Mobile Learning Lab and iMac computers and adopting the use of a robust tool for parent and student online access. Our Performing Arts program continues to blossom as we develop our connection with the Hartt School of Music. Students will be able to take lessons onsite with Hartt School educators.
Opportunities for learning and growing extend beyond the classroom through family education and adult support as well as community involvement. Our Elementary and Middle School students also share in the development of our youngest students in Early Childhood, which helps to foster a sense of community throughout the school.
Enjoy this glimpse into some of what makes the Schechter educational experience so rewarding. More information about this program can be found below but the best way to truly understand the Schechter experience is to see it in action! Should you wish to schedule a visit to see our school in person, please feel free to contact Admissions at (860) 561-0700. We look forward to welcoming you!
The Elementary School divides class time evenly between Judaic studies and General Studies. Students typically change subjects approximately every 45 minutes. Classes are often divided into smaller learning groups to enhance the time-on-task and ensure differentiation can be effectively implemented.

In addition to integrating the arts into the classroom, Elementary School students also participate in Art, Music and Library once per week and Physical Education twice per week. In Grade 3, students are introduced to the recorder and in grades 4 and 5, they have the opportunity to be in the school choir. Additional opportunities to take private music lessons are available as well in conjunction with the Hartt School of Music. Beginning in grade 4, students are invited to join the beginner or advanced band.
