Learn. Think. Do.
We are proud to offer a dual curriculum at Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, providing an exceptional education to our learners in both General Studies and Judaic Studies. Our students from Early Childhood 2 through 8th grade spend their day exploring age-appropriate learning in subject areas such as Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology, Hebrew, Bible, Holidays and Rabbinics. Tefillot (prayer) is an integral and daily part of our students' day. Jewish Family Education takes place on a regular basis on all levels. Our school and our curriculum are child-centered, and we aim to meet the individual learning styles and needs of each and every one of our learners.
We have chosen to adopt the Understanding by Design (UbD) model for unit planning, and teachers' lesson and unit plans focus on enduring understandings, essential questions, and a variety of assessment methodologies. Our primary focus is to teach our children how to be independent and creative thinkers. We work actively to integrate Judaic and General Studies wherever and whenever possible, so that our students gain an understanding of the reality of living an actively integrated Jewish and general life as they grow toward adulthood.
The Unified Arts are an important aspect of our curriculum, and we involve all of our students in Art, Music, Drama, and Dance, as well as regular Physical Education. Performances of all kinds are a regular part of our schedule. Our excellent library provides substantial opportunities and resources for our students' learning. All of these activities are designed to encourage our students to actively grow and develop both hemispheres of their brains.
