Here’s where you can find the most recent articles, photos and videos of what’s happening in our Rogow Middle School. Many of our families continue into this exciting division of our school after participating in our Elementary School; however, a number of students and families begin their relationship with our special Schechter community through this wonderful division of our school as well. At this important transitional stage, students are encouraged to become increasingly independent and are able to take additional courses to aid in their development. Few environments offer the array of services that Schechter provides to ensure each child is challenged and nurtured, encouraged to work constructively independently and with others, and valued as an individual. Our Middle School program culminates in the 8th Grade trip to Israel, where students are able to experience many of the Jewish cultural and historical connections to our heritage.
Our skilled teachers are passionate about what they do and committed to the success of each of the children under their care. They work thoughtfully and collaboratively to address the varied needs of their students and become fluent in differentiated instruction, appreciating the multiple intelligences and learning styles of their students. We strive to provide an environment that truly exemplifies integrated instruction, with General and Judaic Studies teachers working together to ensure our students receive an outstanding educational experience infused with Jewish values.
In our recent re-accreditation with the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), Schechter earned a superlative review in each key area of educational implementation. We are proud of this affirmation of the wonderful work of our staff and response of our families. Still we recognize that there is always room to improve and we actively seek these opportunities. Our curriculum is a dynamic one that continues to evolve in detail while retaining the integrity that has ensured our graduates become confident learners, creative thinkers and caring individuals who are motivated to make a difference.
In addition to enhancing our curriculum, we have recently upgraded our technology infrastructure, incorporating a Macbook Mobile Learning Lab and iMac computers and adopting the use of a robust tool for parent and student online access. Our Performing Arts program continues to blossom as we develop our connection with the Hartt School of Music. Students will be able to take lessons onsite with Hartt School educators.
Summers are now open for engagement at Schechter as well through our exciting summer camp program, Camp Create-a-Summer, led by our own Athletics Director, Mike Cunningham. For more information, go to: www.campcreateasummer.com
Opportunities for learning and growing extend beyond the classroom through family education and adult support as well as community involvement. Our Elementary and Middle School students also share in the development of our youngest students in Early Childhood, which helps to foster a sense of community throughout the school.

Rogow Middle School
Middle School students spend approximately 60% of the time studying General Studies topics. Students switch classes for each subject. Students study Math, Humanities (English and Social Studies), Science, Hebrew, Bible and Rabbinics.
In addition to integrating the arts into the classroom, Middle School students also participate in Studio Art and Music once per week and Physical Education twice per week. Middle School students have access to the library for personal use as well as for school research. Additionally, we often offer additional elective opportunities including: Jazz band, Movie-making, Advanced Music, and Glee Club. In addition to Hebrew, Middle School students may learn Chinese or Spanish. Our girls and boys basketball teams have students from grades 5-8.
The structure, content and goals of the Rogow Middle School reflect the current best practices in middle school education. During the past six years, we have improved our academic curriculum and school climate in numerous ways.
In order to develop the skill and knowledge base of students in an engaging and exciting manner, in preparation for the academic work of high school,
-
We emphasize writing and research skills across the curriculum.
-
We encourage all students to master pre-Algebra and Algebra math skills and concepts before they graduate.
-
We integrate technology into all subjects, both Judaic and general.
-
We emphasize the process and content of learning that is necessary to achieve and produce a final product.
-
We encourage students to use and build upon their unique personal learning strengths and aptitudes.
-
We hold annual “fairs” in science and Bible in which students present projects based on original research.
