REACHING FOR EXCELLENCOur school begins each year with the murmur of excitement as we eagerly await the return of the children. As it is written in Talmud Shabbat 119b, the world's very excistence rests on the breth of children in the schoolhouse. The building is not a school until the children enter through the doors on the first day of school each year. Prior to that first day of school, staff has already been hard at work opening their supplies, setting up their classrooms, and participating in professional development programs. Each year, we increase our repertoire of skills by reviewing past areas of professional focus and adding new ones. Our talented faculty has studied areas such as Understanding by Design, Differentiated Instruction, and Assessing Student Performance. this year, will work on the development of appropriate Standards as well as the Remapping of our Scope and Sequence. Solomon Schecter Day School has made great strides in technology. In addition to a complete computer network, we now have 10 rooms with SMART Boards. Teachers have participated in formal training for this new technology and use the boards in virtually every area of instruction including Judaics. The boards can be found at all levels within the school. We also have six rooms with Audio Enhancement sound systems. Studies have shown that audio enhanced environments have a positive effect on students learning and achievement. This is but a glimpse into our school and I hope you take the time to visit all the areas of our website and even better, take the time to come for a visit.
