3rd All trade paperbacks/novels.  Topics include family, chocolate, explorers, inventors, animals. Reading and Response Journals on independent reading. Emphasis on vocab, fluency, and comprehension. 4th Trade books or novels.  Reading Response journals; Literature Circles; Comprehension and connections emphasized. 6th Novels such as Bloomability, Devil's Arithmetic, and the Giver.  Variety of reading comprehension strategies including characterization plot, & figurative language. Expository, Narrative essays.  Grammar focus with Write Source - editing and commas. Journals, research and book reports. Done within the context of writing and vocabulary. Each grade offers a grade level math program, pre-algebra, algebra, or geometry based on students' levels World Cultures and Geography, Current events in depth, Folktales, research projects. 8th Novels such as Inherit the Wind, Daughter of Venice, Crispin, Cross of Lead, and Shakespeare.  Short Stories. An ongoing focus on all forms of writing with a focus on skills necessary for high school.  Write Source; grammar skillbook, Write-on journals, Research Papers and Journals, Book reports, Editing Skills Great Source.  Vocab for Achievement plus honors vocab from novels.   Middle Ages, Renaissance, World War II, Holocaust Chemistry Eng. & S.S.   Medieval  Europe.  Intro into World Religions, WWII integrated with the Holocaust
