Flexible Tuition

What is Flexible Tuition and is it for you?

Our Flexible Tuition program reflects SSDS’s philosophy that all families who want a Jewish education for their children to apply to the school. Flexible Tuition is based on demonstrated financial need. Families who have reviewed their financial situation and feel they need help paying tuition bills should apply. At SSDS, we strongly believe that money should not keep you from becoming a part of our family.

How do I apply for Flexible Tuition?

  1. Request a Flexible Tuition packet from the admissions office when you apply for admission.
  2. Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and return it to School and Student Service (SSS) for processing. The booklet in the packet contains step by step instructions for completing the application.
  3. If you have any questions about the process, you may contact SSS directly or you may speak to someone in our business office who will be happy to help you.
  4. Send a photocopy of the PFS directly to our business office. Include a copy of your most recent federal tax return (form 1040). If you receive income from a trade or business, please also submit a Business/Farm Statement.
  5. In addition to the application, the committee appreciates any information that you believe would help the committee make an appropriate final decision.

The committee reviews all the information submitted. Once the review is complete, you will receive a letter detailing your tuition commitment for the coming school year.

How is Flexible Tuition determined?

Our Flexible Tuition committee uses SSS as well as the tax information to determine each family’s award. The committee carefully assesses every situation to insure that each award fairly reflects the individual family’s ability to pay. Additionally, we have an appeals process as the committee’s goal is to provide you with the assistance you need. If you believe that the adjusted tuition commitment remains beyond your means, the committee will review your application a second time.

All information is kept strictly confidential.

When do I apply for Flexible Tuition?

Your application for Flexible Tuition should be completed as early as possible in the year in which you are applying. We recommend sending your forms to SSS no later than mid-January as it takes SSS about one month to process your information. Our committee meets in early March to determine awards.

Will my child receive Flexible Tuition in Subsequent years?

Families must reapply for Flexible Tuition each year. Flexible Tuition is base on a Family’s particular circumstances in each year
