Position – Head of School

The Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford (SSDS) seeks a dynamic leader who believes deeply in the school’s mission and values and who will collaborate with our faculty and families to realize those ideals and communicate them to the greater community. Our ideal candidate will advance our school’s academic excellence, enrollment, professional development, endowment and visibility in the community.  S/he will be a Jewish role model who inspires spiritual growth in our students and families.

Applicants should have professional leadership experience and at least one advanced degree, preferably in education.  Experience in teaching, development and working with a non-profit board is beneficial.

SSDS is housed in a state of the art building that was completed in 2000.  We are committed to excellence in dual-curriculum education and provide individualized attention to each student to educate the whole child, intellectually, spiritually and physically.  Our overall goal is to develop skilled and discerning individuals actively committed to improving the Jewish community and the general society in which they live.  Our students’ education culminates with an annual 8th grade trip to Israel.  SSDS is accredited by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  Our current head of school has offered stable leadership, having served for 10 years.  For additional information about our school visit our website at  www.ssds-hartford.org.

SSDS is located in West Hartford, Connecticut, a vibrant town with a warm and welcoming Jewish community that makes up one-third of the population.  The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s website, www.jewishhartford.org, and the city of West Hartford’s website, www.westhartford.org, detail the community’s rich offerings and resources.  Hartford is geographically ideal, located 2 hours from both Boston and New York City and close to mountains, lakes and the ocean. Greater Hartford has many appealing suburbs with affordable costs of living and enjoyable lifestyles.
