Letter from The Development Department
The Solomon Schechter Day School welcomes contributions in support of its mission and outstanding dual-curriculum educational program. A quality Jewish Day School education is expensive and tuition alone does not fully cover the cost. Yearly fundraising events and our FOSS (Friends of Solomon Schechter) Campaign are the foundation of our Annual Fund. These vital dollars benefit our operating budget and include scholarship. In addition, Solomon Schechter receives a yearly allocation from the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and various grants from the Jewish Community Foundation to enhance subject areas and promote staff development.
The Annual Campaign reaches beyond our current parent body to include alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, staff, and friends in the greater Jewish community. These charitable donations enable the school to achieve academic excellence while remaining financially accessible to all young Jewish families.
The Endowment Campaign is gradually increasing and generates income through wise investment of the principle. A strong endowment will solidify our school's financial security in the future. This year, we will embark on a major gifts endowment campaign focused on raising $3 million in the next two years; we will then continue to build our endowment to $10 million. Donors who establish an endowment fund at a certain level can name a program of their personal choice. Legacy gifts can be set up in several ways: a trust, a bequest in your will, a private family foundation, or a life insurance policy. These are a few options that will provide for the needs of our children tomorrow.
National statistics reveal that over $10 trillion is expected to change hands in the next decade. Planned Giving will be a vital focus of our future fundraising goals. Estate gifts in various forms are wonderful acts of tzedaka, especially when they memorialize the donor's name in perpetuity.
