Making Music an Integral Part of Schechter Students’ Distance Learning
Students in Early Childhood and Parparim (grades K-1) have followed along with Miss Chrissy through interactive videos. Students echo sing after Miss Chrissy demonstrates; they follow her movement, keep the beat, and listen to SongTales the same way they do in the music classroom! Early Childhood teachers also incorporate singing, music, and movement into their daily activities videos and Zoom calls with the students.
Rimonim students (grades 2-3) have continued learning about Camille Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. From home, they have listened to the last few movements, including Fossils, Swan, and the big finish! They will soon learn how to create their own music that sounds like an animal of their choice!
Gesher students (grades 4-5) have found amazing ways to connect with their classmates by sharing personal playlists of favorite songs. Through the Personal Playlist Projects, they comment thoughtfully on one another’s playlists and share impactful musical experiences, even while inhabiting different spaces.
Voice lessons continue with gusto! Virtual lessons have been a great way for voice students to continue making progress. Music is a way for us to all stay connected in this time of disconnect, and Schechter students are continuing to make music together!
