Annual Campaign

A Note from our Head of School

At Schechter, students develop a love of learning; in addition to acquiring skills and knowledge, they learn to ask powerful questions and seek innovative solutions. They celebrate Jewish life, build lasting friendships, and prepare to become the creators and leaders of the future.

Because of the quality of our education and the strength of our community, enrollment has increased at Schechter for five years running! Through your generous contributions, we are able to  make a Schechter education affordable to all and provide over 60% of our families with tuition assistance. Thank you for helping us provide an unparalleled Jewish and general education and inspire graduates to forge innovative paths.

You truly make a difference, and enable our students to thrive; todah rabbah (tremendous thanks) for your generous support.

With gratitude,
Yoni

Innovation at Schechter

makerspace1.pngScott Shoham z”l Makerspace/Design Studio
Our new Makerspace, made possible by the Shoham family, is providing Schechter students with a powerful new set of tools to create and demonstrate their learning. They will develop design skills that incorporate computer-based modeling and coding, and hands-on building and crafting. Through the Makerspace, even our youngest students will learn to see themselves as creators who can make a meaningful impact in the world.

Immersion into Israel
geology1.pngGuided by the iCenter, we are infusing Israel into our curriculum and helping students develop a strong connection to the Jewish homeland. For example:

  • Encountering Israeli painters in first-second grade art class
  • Exploring examples of Israeli geology in middle school science class
  • Comparing Israeli and American holiday customs in third-fourth grade Judaic studies

israel1.pngConnecting With Peers Leads to Real-World Experience
Schechter middle schoolers partner with peers across the country through the Small Day School Alliance including students from Harrisburg, Greensboro, and Omaha. Together, they learn about the civil rights movement, American government, and Israeli innovation—and then they travel to Alabama, Washington DC, and Israel for the field trips of a lifetime.

Enrollment at Schechter has increased consecutively for five straight years! Through your generous contributions, we are able to  make a Schechter education affordable to all and provide over 60% of our families with  tuition assistance.Thank you for helping us provide an unparalleled Jewish and general education and inspire graduates to forge innovative paths as they become the leaders of tomorrow. We are immensly grateful for our generous donors. With your help we were able to retire the mortgage which will provide security for Schechter for generations to come.

Now is the time to build a more solid foundation for Schechter's future. To ensure that Schechter continues with stability and strength for generations to come, we are excited to roll out our new endowment fund with an initial goal of $3 million. We invite you to join us in supporting Schechter. Please contact Nicole Schaffer, our Director of Development, at nschaffer@ssds-hartford.org to learn more.
