Community Engagement

The value of Klal Yisrael (Community) is a guiding force behind Schechter’s numerous community service and engagement programs. Our faculty, students and parents participate in a variety of programs as they work to make a positive difference in the world. Students are guided to commit acts of kindness that are both large and small — and to recognize the gift that each brings, both to the recipient and the participant.

Students work with a variety of community organizations:

  • They collect food and goods for the Bridge Family Center, Jewish Food Pantry and South Park Inn Family shelter
  • Schechter’s partnerships with Hebrew HealthCare, House of Bread and the Coalition for Literacy allow for a variety of engagement opportunities, bringing students in contact with members of the greater community
  • We also partner with West Hartford Public Schools to sponsor an annual Dr. Martin Luther King community conversation on the topics of race and privilege

Klal Yisrael lives at the heart of a Schechter education. All of our community service programs help students engage in meaningful ways while developing a culture of giving.
